chapter 10
Spencer and the rest of the boys got moved closer to the fight. They stayed the night in the woods right on the edge.
When morning came they where up early and the troop leaders told them to spread out on the road and not to bunch up or they
will all be taken out. As they where walking Spencer heard someone scream "shell" right away Spencer was on the
ground trying to get as deep in the snow as he could. He kept hearing the shells go by closer and closer. Then right behind
him someone got hit he heard them yelling for help and he just sat there trying to hide himself in the snow. Then the troop
leaders said to run toward the trees and to get out the other side away from the range of bullets. They walked along a little
and the troop leader told them they had to "dig in again". As they started to dig the bullets came again Ted and
Spencer jumped in the little hole that they had and hoped not to get hit. A tree came down on top of them and missed just
coverd there hole and protected them a little more. After that attack the boys found out that 2 men had been killed and Ted
and Spencer new them they where in there division.
Chapter 11 (pages 141 - 157):
Spencer and Ted got in their hole and tried to sleep. Later in the night Spencer relized that his toes were freezing,
and tried to get his boot off without Ted noticing, but it didn't work. He looked over and told Spencer to put his foot in
his jacket to warm them. After Spencer's feet where warmed up Ted did the same thing with Spencer. Just before the sun was
up the troop leader came and told them to not light a fire, but to eat and drink what they could and to get ready to go because
they where going to hit a town. When they get half way down the hill, they needed to get down as they were being shot at by
a machine gunner from the 2nd story of the house. When Spencer made it to a wall he ducked behind it and someone yelled out
for him to keep moving or he will die right there He got up and kept running and made it to another wall right in front of
a house. Spencer pulled out a granade and rolled it up to the door and blew it open. Erickson went upstairs first and a man
gunned him down. Spencer grabbed Erickson's gun and took out he German soldier and entered the room shooting, killing a 12
year old boy. He is congratulated but regrets losing his friend and feels remorse towards the kid.

and to have a break. Then they heard the noise of a plane coming down on them the men started to scream and scatter around
Dieter ran into the woods and kept running. Dieter just kept hearing the noise of bullets coming down from over head. When

Dieter in the racket of the day he had lost his gloves and another man had picked them up to keep himself warm. Schaefer had
